If center area elevation is more than 2,000 feet higher than surrounding areas, put a hill or mountain (>2,000=hill, >3,000=mountain) in the middle instead of land cover tile. Compare elevation of center micro area to surrounding micro areas.

If micro area is 3x3, then macro area is 9x9. The only reason to do relative elevation would be to avoid using actual elevation (to have -fewer- hills and mountains and thus less unpleasant terrain resulting in faster game-play.) Split image into macro and micro areas: macro area is 3x size of micro area. Game-play would likely be -slower- (less food for growth in all areas of high-elevation, more irrigation obstacles, less trade, better defense against attacks.) The Freeciv map terrain would be more rugged, less pleasant. Areas of moderate elevation would be hills. That method would produce a Freeciv map which accurately conveys elevation globally. The elevation issue is still the same as it was in my prior post isn't it? In my view there are four land tiles which inherently indicate elevation: mountain, hill, plains, grassland. Your tst.png image as Adams world in a square 2 at 15000 pixel width -> Non-rectangular projections require a much larger target size to maintain actual image dimensions. P.S.^ I'm not sure what is meant by "shapes"? Projections? GProjector scales input size to desired output size. Given the cold reception that has been given to Civ V, I would say Freeciv is a very good alternative to the commercial games. Plus, the multiplayer is excellent (although it can be hard to find a game when not playing people you know). Whoever said that it takes all the best bits of Civ II and removes all the annoying bits I think had it spot on. I don't really see why Ctrl+Alt+F1 should elaborate why it is a great game when you gave no reason for how "it sucks". It removes the diplomacy aspect, but gives you a much better chance, plus you have to worry less about trying to keep everyone happy! If you are still struggling, make teams when setting up the game and give your side more nations. The AI expands very quickly, so if you don't like to build tons of cities, but prefer to develop your cities well, try reducing the size of the map and increasing minimum distance between cities.
#FREECIV MAPS PATCH#
From this version, a bug with the AI was fixed where if you went to war with them, they would hate you through the whole game and their attitude would never recover (my first patch for an open source project :)) Make sure you play version 2.2.4 or above.

So what?" :?: I have played the game many, many times, and I still never increase the difficulty beyond 'easy'!
#FREECIV MAPS CODE#
If you need proof, there is a place in the code where the AI's war reason is given as 'none' and the comment reads "We have no legimitate reason. It will crush you sometimes with no good reason. Unlike the commercial games, the AI is not there to entertain you.
#FREECIV MAPS MANUAL#
I suggest reading through the game manual () and playing the tutorial, which can be selected after clicking 'Start Scenario Game' on the main menu.Īs well as having complex gameplay, the AI is also very unforgiving. Freeciv is an excellent game, although it certainly has quite a learning curve if you haven't played the Civilization series (particularly Civ II) before.
